The Block Master Ensuite Reveals 2016 – Not A Lot To Be Desired

The Block reveals were on last night and to be honest, the bathrooms that were presented were a little lackluster. You could feel the viewers weren’t feeling the love either as they voiced their opinions on Twitter.

I love a good bathroom reveal, but last night I felt like I’d seen it all before and I was really hoping to see something new and a change from the common black, white and grey colour scheme.

A neutral colour scheme is always safe when designing a bathroom for a property you’re going to sell, but sometimes it’s nice to add something different and push the boundaries. (in my opinion)

The first couple to reveal were Brisbane couple Will and Karlie. The rose gold tapware and pendants added a touch of luxury to the bathroom. Some of the teams included a double shower, but Will and Karlie’s bathroom had three shower heads.

The judges commented on the lack of lighting above the vanity and a lot of us viewers could not understand what the neon lighting was doing under the vanity.

The next couple who were annihilated were Dan and Carleen. I understood where they were going with their bathroom, but some design choices had the judges picking on their bathroom entirely. The tile choice was dissed, as was the elevated platform under the feature bath – which was to lift the bath so the occupant could look out the window. The styling was completely off as well.

The towel rails were no where near the shower entry. I made a joke about a nudie run to Mr Palmer on Twitter, but he didn’t catch my fun sarcasm.

The next couple were Julia and Sasha. Their bathroom was the winning room. They had dramas with the height of their taps and spouts installed above the vanity. That stuff up made them realise how much they rely on their builder when renovating a bathroom. Overall the vanity unit was a great choice and the gold tapware was a nice touch – although not my cup of tea but added a hint towards the art déco theme.

For school teachers Andy and Ben, this was their first attempt at renovating a bathroom. The judges weren’t impressed with the basins but the pendant lights were a great choice and gave much needed light above the vanity. The styling was a little off as the boys decided to give their bathroom a ‘homely’ feel by purchasing some razors and radox from their local Coles.

The last couple to reveal were Chris and Kim and I had high expectations with this couple after they won the pod room challenge. But their bathroom also failed to impress and was possibly the worst designed bathroom of the night. The hexagonal tiles were ‘ugly’ (as said by Shaynna) and the bathroom felt too roomy as the couple decided to install their bath outside. Much was said about the toilet roll holder too. None of it positive.

Despite the bathrooms not being a lot to be desired, whoever did the recruiting of the teams for this season has done really well. I am definitely excited to see the teams work to create some beautiful apartments. I don’t have any favourites and no teams have got on my nerves yet, but it’s only been week one. We’re bound to see the teams’ true colours over the next couple of weeks.

Which bathroom was your favourite last night? Did you think they lacked a bit of something too? Got a favourite team yet?
