homebody book review

I’ve been building quite the collection of home and interior books over the years to display around my home and to enjoy the style inspiration from a different point of view.

‘Homebody’ by Joanna Gaines has been on my must own list since its release. I bought it the week before Mother’s Day as a treat for myself and I’m glad I did.

homebody book review

‘Homebody’ is a book designed to create a home you never want to leave just as the title suggests. If I lived in any of the homes Joanna styled, I wouldn’t want to leave them either.

The guide by Joanna Gaines (one half of the Fixer Upper duo) essentially covers the different decorating styles and how they can be played out in the interior and exterior of your home.

It’s written and formatted in an easy to read guide. I almost feel like I’m one of the clients in Joanna’s design studio as I read this book. She shares simple tips anyone can replicate in their own home… but with their own flavour.

Joanna shares in her book how no house she has styled sticks to one foundational style. It often incorporates a few different styles to create an eclectic look.

The book has helped me know how to style an area in our home I’ve yet to develop. I have an antique which I want to put on display, but I haven’t known how to do it with our modern home. ‘Homebody’ gave me inspiration on how to address this problem and I will share it with you on the blog in the future.

Who the book is good for

I think this book is a great resource for anyone who has made the decision to build or renovate their home. It’s a visual guide for those who don’t know what styles they like or those who don’t know how to mesh a few styles together to create a cohesive look throughout the home.

The images are quite neutral in the book… so if you’re looking for bright, colourful interiors, this book is not going to give you that inspiration.

But if you want designer tips on making your home more homely, Joanna shares insights of projects she’s completed. She even shares images from her own home. There is also advice for each section of the home where design obstacles may occur.

Homebody is a delightful read. I read it in one afternoon with a cup of tea. It’s worthy of being a coffee table book guests can reach for time and time again. I know I will when I need inspiration for the blog or even for my own home as our family evolves through the seasons.
