Copper has been a huge trend in interiors for the past year so it’s not surprising that tapware manufacturers have followed the trend. Copper tapware is a big trend that is making a big statement in kitchens and bathrooms across Australia.
I’ve always advised that chrome tapware is best, and I have been hesistant about the look of the copper tapware against a chrome plug and waste, but the mixed metals compliment each other. Copper taps contrast well against white porcelain and black tiles. If I was to build a house or renovate, I would seriously consider copper tapware for all the wet areas in my home.
Astra Walker and Sussex are the main tapware players that are offering copper taps as part of their stock. Roger Seller and Brodware also offer some copper/rose gold tapware. Some taps can be ordered in the copper or rose gold colour.
To ensure you get the best price on your copper tapware (or any taps and fixtures) get your local plumbing suppliers to give you prices on the tapware. My go to stores are Reece, Tradelink and Farleys (in Brisbane). Some exclusive designer bathroomware supply stores may be able to offer you a price too. I’ve often found them to be dearer than the main bathroom supplies stores. In some cases, some tapware manufacturers will exclusively supply through one store, so keep this in mind when you’re comparing prices.
The best way to look after and clean your copper tapware is to use warm soapy water or a bamboo cloth that can get rid of watermarks. Don’t use chemicals as they can wear away the colour over time. I don’t see this as a problem as copper can age beautifully. Most copper taps will be covered with a protective coating to ensure longevity of the tap.
Do you like copper taps? Would you install them at your property?
They are definitely a new concept!
