For the last month or so I have been trialing a product that prevents smells coming up through the floor waste.
Smelly drains are a common problem in all homes and I explain in this short video what could be causing the drain to smell.
In the past I have recommended using a chemical or jet rodding machine to flush out the sediment that builds up at the bottom of the floor trap. The only problem with this is that it doesn’t always get rid of the smell and it sometimes needs to be done a few times when the smell builds up over time. It’s not good for our sewer system to be polluted with chemicals.
Well now there is a product that can fix this problem.
EzyDrain is a natural way to eliminate smelly drains. It’s a device that is inserted into the floor waste that prevents the smell come through the grate.
EzyDrain combines the proven antibacterial qualities of colloidal silver with the simplicity of a spring loaded one-way trap mechanism.
The EzyDrain fitting doesn’t have to be installed by a plumber, but it is a great fitting for plumbers to have on the back of their truck should they need to assist a client with a smelly drain problem.
EzyDrain is available online and fits into 100mm and 90mm floor wastes. It can be used in the shower, but I was unable to install it into my shower waste due to concrete and water membrane material lining the inside of our shower waste pipe. EzyDrain does come with sandpaper to help with the fit of the fitting into the floor waste.
There are other benefits to using EzyDrain which include
- Preventing suds rising from floor wastes – a common occurrence in laundries
- Prevents water rising through the floor waste into your dwelling if the house is built near rivers or lakes
- It’s suitable for indoor use
- It prevents dropped items like jewellery going down the drain providing there’s not running water that will open the flap for the jewellery to run down into the floor waste.
I don’t recommend installing EzyDrain on wastes outside, despite being encouraged to do so in their pamphlet. The simple reason is, most grated drains outside are ORG’s which need to remain open so if the street’s sewer backs up, it overflows through the ORG and not into your home. If you install an EzyDrain fitting into your ORG the fitting will prevent the overflow outside and may force the sewerage through the next lowest opening in your home which could be a very nasty experience.
The EzyDrain fitting costs from $54.95 to $59.95 depending on the fitting that you require. If you are a tradesperson, enquire about their bulk deal discount.
So you can try this product for yourself, I have one set of three EzyDrain devices available to giveaway. Your floor wastes must be 100mm if you are going to use the type that I’m giving away.
