Now that it’s officially the 1st of December, I can start writing about all things Christmas. Isn’t it a fun time of year? I love it for spiritual reasons and emotional ones – everyone seems to be a bit happier that it’s Christmas.
On the weekend, Jacob and Esther put up our Christmas tree and I gave our bedroom a Christmas look. I still have to put up some décor around the house and wrap all the presents. But it’s definitely beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.
There are of course a couple of downsides to Christmas. It’s not a time of cheer for everyone. It’s a time of year that can highlight the loss of a loved one, or it’s an added stress to an already busy time of year if looking after someone who is terminally ill. Sometimes it brings people back into your life you’d rather not spend time with. For others, Christmas can be a time of year that overclouds their one special day of the year – their Birthday.
Just last week I saw a Facebook friend make a comment ‘and so it begins…’ with Christmas overshadowing all the Birthdays that get forgotten celebrated in December.
There are families that refuse to put their Christmas tree up until the December Birthday has been celebrated.
And then there are the combined Birthday and Christmas Gifts which only people with Birthdays in December understand. I don’t envy December Birthdays. I’m quite glad I was born in July to even out the celebrations throughout the year.
