If you’re looking for tips on how to style a buffet, I’ve got some ideas to inspire you.

A buffet offers a blank canvas to display artwork and decor to turn your house into a home.

I love seeing what people place on their buffet as it can give insight into what the person likes – a bit like a bookshelf really.

But it can be a hard place to style as it has a limited surface and sometimes too many items on display can turn your buffet into a busy mess.

Also, if you have a love of all interior styles like I do, it can be hard to congregate them into a small space.

There are a few visual tricks you can use to get the right balance in height, depth, texture and colour when styling your buffet.

As you can see I love a lot of colour and plants. The main artwork on the left was purchased from The Block Shop. The artwork on the right was painted by Maggie when she was in Kindy.

We recently updated our buffet to match our new 10 seater dining table. You can see similar items used on both buffets.

How to Style a Buffet

Here are some tips on styling a buffet to create a cohesive look

  • Choose a colour scheme of 2 – 3 colours.
  • Group items in 3’s which differ in height from each other.
  • Add a unique piece to sit on a 3 stack of books.
  • A tray can help keep little homewares contained and can add more interest to your look
  • Less is more. When you are finished styling, remove 1 item.
  • Layer your artwork using similar colours.
  • Choose plants and flowers which pick up hints of colour from your artwork.
  • It’s trial and error until you find the look you’re happy with.

I find it relaxing moving and swapping decor around my home as the pieces can integrate easily into other living areas with a similar colour scheme.
